Automatic analysis of passive constructions in Korean

Abstract The present study aims to explore the applicability of automatic analysis L2-Korean learner corpora, with a special focus on learners’ use clause-level construction. For this purpose, we investigate L1-Mandarin written production two passive construction types in Korean – suffixal and periphrastic by devising pattern-extraction process through NLP techniques. We reporting how constructions are identified extracted from writing automatically, given language-specific features involving passive. A total 72 essays were analysed adapting an existing pipeline (developed Shin, forthcoming ), enhanced tokenisation annotation manual revision data. Results showed that our pattern-finder more instances than extraction for yielded perfect match Implications findings discussed regard strengths drawbacks writing, suggestions improving currently available tools corpus research Korean.
